TOUR 01. SANT VICENÇ CHURCH & CLOISTER.

.

Both buildings are located in the Convent square, in the middle of the city.  The church is more than 500 years old, ans has got Gothic compositional schemes and sense of restraint and austerity. It is formed by an unique church hall, and some chapels. The most important one is the “Capella del Roser” , where we can see the baroque art of Manacor. Near the church there is a small bell, too. Here, a mass is held every Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

The cloister was build in the XVII century. The structure is a rectangular square, surrounded by lots of columns, and a well in the middle of the cloister. The cloister was assuming different uses: telegraph office, prison … currently used as municipal offices, and it has a library too where everybody can go and study or look for something on books or on the Internet.

In 1919 it was declared a National Monument. During the years 2005-2006 was a comprehensive restoration of the cloister.

There is a legend that tells us that one day, when a saint was praying, the devil came into a monkey body to annoy him. The saint make him hold a candle while he was praying, and the devil, who started to burn his hand, decided to leave that place and went away. That’s why there is the figure of a devil holding a candle, that represents him waiting forever while the saint makes his chants.

TOUR 01. ESGLÈSIA DE SANT VICENÇ.

.

Hi podem trobar una biblioteca allà on podem estudiar o consultar dubtes a llibres o internet.
